A person requires a permit to hunt animals. "To hunt," means to take any mammal or bird that has not been domesticated or brought into captivity. "To take" includes any act of hunting, catching, restraining, killing or injuring, and any act of attempting or assisting to hunt, catch, restrain, kill or injure.

Department for the Environment

The Department for Environment and Heritage is divided into two broad functional areas in relation to the conservation of Biodiversity

Park Management - managing the development, use and protection of specific parks and reserves.


Biodiversity Conservation - provision of scientific understanding, directions and support for conservation management throughout the State, by implementing a series of conservation programs and by providing specialist biodiversity management support services.


The British Association for Shooting & Conservation

BASC's mission is to promote and protect sporting and shooting and the well-being of the countryside throughout the United Kingdom and overseas. BASC represents members' interests by providing a voice for sporting shooting which includes wildfowling, game, and rough shooting, deer stalking, target shooting and air gunning, pigeon shooting and pest control, gun dogs, promoting practical habitat conservation, training and the setting of standards and undertaking appropriate research.
